Lupus Diet – Why Lupus Isn’t Coming Back And How I’m Shedding Weight

This post is aimed mainly for my fellow lupus patients but can also help those who want to have a healthier life and go down to their desired/ideal weight.

Last December I weighed something above 64kgs or 140+lbs, then came January, I was able to hit 140lbs and go down to 136 last week. This is after I removed chocolates, ice cream, cakes, chips, and sodas.

Then! I shifted the bulk of my diet to vegetables and I lost 2 kgs in 1 week!

Dear fellow lupus patients,

For a long time, I thought I was eating a more or less clean diet too. But a “clean diet” little did I know, requires so much more, and is defined more strictly than what I used to think it meant.

Here’s what I mean:

Breakfast Before: Fruit, cucumber, whey protein, Anlene (calcium-rich powedered milk)

Breakfast Now: 2 Fruits, 1 Cucumber, Anlene

Lunch Before: 1/3cup Rice, fist-size serving of fish/pork/chicken/beef, fist-size serving of vegetables

Lunch Now: 2 cups of vegetables (or as much as I can eat) + 1 Small Matchbox (2″x 2″) serving of fish/pork/chicken

Snacks before: 1 Fruit, 2/3 cup coffee, bread/biscuits

Snacks now: 1-2 Fruit/s, 2/3cup coffee

After workout: 1 scoop whey protein

Dinner Before: Same as lunch

Dinner Now: 1.5 cups of vegetables (or as much as I can eat) + 1 small matchbox (2″ x 2″) serving of fish/pork/chicken

As you can see, much of the serving I got from rice and the calorie rich animal product, I replaced with vegetables (either cooked or raw). You can eat plenty of vegetables–and I eat until I’m full–and you won’t gain weight because they are calorie dense and fiber rich. I’ve learned to grab a fruit (yes, even if it’s a sweet fruit) over anything else during snacks. We go to the market minimum twice a week to replenish our fruits and vegetables these days.

The side effects I’ve noticed so far are:

  • The lupus meds aren’t coming back, there are no joint pains or light sensitivity, or any other kind of lupus symptoms coming back.
  • No infections, no UTI.
  • I’ve lost 2kgs in 1 week.
  • I am never hungry because I eat until I’m full.

However, it is also important to note, that if you’re feeling better and the joint pains aren’t there, I highly urge you to start walking and exercising. A combination of a healthy diet and physical activity will define your wellness in the long run. Also, it will get you out of the dumps because endorphin will give you a happiness boost.

This new diet fuels 6000+ steps, 150+squats, 50+stairs repeat, and a 30-minute circuit DAILY. Really. No reason not to workout.
